you find a house in an older area of town looks promising how do you get approval. I haven't done any houses of strangers. Some coworkers but no strangers. not really sure what to say but I'm getting tired of hunting the local parks with everyone els in town that has a detector.

I may post this els where but wanting to learn.

thanks for your help

I've had 2 people approach me about lost rings in there yards one I've done the other just waiting for better weather the deal is I search hope to find there ring and I get to check the yard for me told them I only hunt with a screwdriver so no damage to there lawns. Thinking about advertising in the local paper. Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm a retired/disabled land surveyor. I have been dealing with land owners needs and desires for over 30 years.

When I approach people I genuinely want to meet them and connect. Metal detecting is just a minor consideration. The relationship comes first. Once I have connected with a human, personal relationship, listened to what they want to convey, then the conversation can be diverted to the yard.

A good Idea is to take more than one metal detector. I always take at least two. Offer to let them metal detect. Tell them how neat it is so they can see how their new found friend likes his hobby.:detecting:

They usually don't want to join you, but if they like you, they will have a tough time refusing to let you metal detect in their yard.

I'm just a good old boy in Arkie Land. I'm not above anybody in any way, shape, form or fashion. I'm simple and easy to understand. Any body can connect with me.:wiggle:

I've been doing this for a long time. By that I mean connecting with people.

I'm even a professional.

Not everybody can connect like I do, but I've had a lot of practice.

That's about most of what I know about it.

Hope that helps,

Hi Pulltab, Just knock on the door and ask,I've done this many times and only got one refusal. Be sure to offer anything personal you find back to them, and assure them you will do no damage to their property. Another aproach is to place an ad on Craigs list, offer to search for lost items in order to be allowed to hunt new property.

If you have obtained permission to hunt a property, (your co-workers), take that opportunity to visit adjoining neighbors and share the entertainment of your finds with them, as you ask if you may hunt for coins in their yard.

Hopefully they would respond that they lost some family heirloom in their grass and you could promise to return it to them if located.

Good luck

I didn't mention maners, respect of property and returning family items.

Thoes are very important.

All these post are good tips

Good Luck,
