Hi Dan,
I'm a retired/disabled land surveyor. I have been dealing with land owners needs and desires for over 30 years.
When I approach people I genuinely want to meet them and connect. Metal detecting is just a minor consideration. The relationship comes first. Once I have connected with a human, personal relationship, listened to what they want to convey, then the conversation can be diverted to the yard.
A good Idea is to take more than one metal detector. I always take at least two. Offer to let them metal detect. Tell them how neat it is so they can see how their new found friend likes his hobby.
They usually don't want to join you, but if they like you, they will have a tough time refusing to let you metal detect in their yard.
I'm just a good old boy in Arkie Land.
I'm not above anybody in any way, shape, form or fashion. I'm simple and easy to understand. Any body can connect with me.
I've been doing this for a long time. By that I mean connecting with people.
I'm even a professional.
Not everybody can connect like I do, but I've had a lot of practice.
That's about most of what I know about it.
Hope that helps,
