I found it last year about 8 inches down. Good non ferrous metal. found a 1901 token a few inches away same depth? Its hinged and about 2 inches by 3 inches. opens like a small sucrets tin.

Thomas Jefferson in middle and commemorates Louisiana Purchase.


I posted in whatzit forum also.
 
I would have said a Snuff box or tobacco tin,but saying that i am not sure if you folks across the pond used Snuff boxes as it was very popular over here in the UK.
