We found this while detecting around an old house. There is no button loop on the back, just a hole in center. Is this a button, token or any ideas..?

...not sure if you can see it clearly, but it has U. S. on it and some sort of design- but it might be pitting.

Looks like a ww1 dough boy collar button.
 
WW1 collar buttons appearantly do not have the periods or dots after the U and the S.......WW11 apperantly does have the periods after the U and S.

The uniform picture below shows a WW1 style collar button........the other picture with the dots is a WW2 collar button
