I usually hunt iron at 31 with iron on or off. Has anybody hunted lower than that? 31-33 takes out most nails.

What is the lowest iron setting you have used?

I was out for an hour this afternoon - Pro Custom Iron discr at 32 (I don't really know why), iron audio off, and I did find some nails. VDI jumping from 42-76, no nice round tone, dug a rusty old nail at about 4 inches.
Find of the day? Junk ring with 17 fake diamonds. It may have been junk but it got the ticker a-fluttering when I saw it!
Also, found 3 nickels, all came in about 42 (one of the reasons I dug that old rusty nail). AT Pro is the bomb! Dug a small little piece of foil at about 6 inches that was coming in at 62.
I've decided that on my next hunt I'm going to bring a clipboard with a table on it with the following headings:
VDI Indicated Depth My Guess What I Dug Actual Depth
I'm often asked what the VDI was and to tell the truth, I'm not always watching the display, I'm too busy trying to pinpoint.
One other thought. My son called me while I was out and said, "Dad, they've probably filled that park in with 4 feet of fill, You may be wasting your time." My response was, "Yea, but where did that fill come from?? " Who's to say? Some of our finds may have been trucked in!

I often hunt at 27....only to pick up the lower conductors and see how much the VDI and audio jumps up to.

I usually go no lower than 25...I am not too interested in relics...I do not think where I hunt that there would be any decent relics...I mostly go for coins and jewelry...
