what is the full voltage charge on the 1400mah 12v battery for xcal im on 14v should i charge it some more ..and how long should a full charge last me

i get 14.1 on one and 13.9 on my 2 when the charger switches to trickle, the stock excali ll also gives 13.9v. I have used them for more than 15+ hours (3 x 5 hour)still with charge, but charge them again at this point just in case, it will take a few charges to get the best out of them so take a spare just in case( i have heard of people only getting 5 hours on the first charge but ok afterwards)

You can't rely on what the voltage should read when it's peaked. That can vary based on how many amps are being used to charge it and so on. If you can monitor voltage then just watch the voltage when you think it's peaked. Write it down and check it twenty minutes later. If it's still climbing then keep charging it. If it's dropped or is staying the same then it's done. Checking the resting voltage is another way you can do it. Unplug the pack and let it sit for a specific amount of time, like say 20 minutes, and then check the voltage. Put it back on the charger for half an hour, take it off and once again wait 20 minutes and see what it reads. All this is a royal pain to do when for $35 you could get a great charger that will tell you how much capacity is put back into the back once charged. I like to cycle a pack when new or perhaps twice a year by having my charger drain it dead, then recharge it, about 3 times. Exercising the pack will help increase it's capacity a bit. Some think only nicads that were prone to memory problems would benefit from this but it helps nimhs as well.
