I didn't read all of Bryce's links but here is my opinion. The Explorer II is much better at IDing at depth. I had the SE and was bummed once I figured it out. I think lots of people had the same trouble. For me it was almost impossible to tell the difference between a nail and a coin down at 8-9 inches. Completely different than my Explorer II. It could have been my SE, but I heard the same from quite a few guys. Plus it became real popular to hunt in ferrous tones/all metal soon after the SE came out - that is the only way I could solve the deep id problem. I like hunting in conductive tones where you can hear the difference between a dime and a foil. Sold the SE kept the EII (lost $s).

I started using the SE. I honestly like the SE better and do pretty well with it in the iron. I'm still a newbie but while the 2 might be just a little smoother; I think the SE ID's bettor in deep iron. I passed on the explorer 2 and purchased a new SE pro...and never looked back. Bryce spent too many hunts beating the benefits of the "ID'ing all metal pinpoint mode" on the SE for me to pass it up. The explorer 2 is a nice machine but doesn't have it. My buddy uses it and he finds just as much stuff as we do though. Just my opinion..
