the 1266x is a 2 pc. rod system and the 1266xb is a 3 pc. rod system and comes with a fisher hard case. exactly the same other than the difference in the rod systems.

The X series is just a reference to that model, like CZ (quicksilver), Gold Bug (GB), ect... All the 1200's are X series.
1225x,
1236x
1265x
1266x
1270x
So a 1265 if spoken off may not include the "x" but because its a 1200 series makes it one of the "x" models/series.

Now like Joe stated the 1266x with the added "B" is just the 1266x-B (B= breakdown) in a break down shorter sections version to fit into the supplied hard case. It was a neater package and it did cost a little more.

Now I can't state this as a fact but I'm thinking that the 1266 was the only "X" series that was offered in the Breakdown version "1266x - B"

Markcz, you are correct about the 1266xb being the only x series to be offered as a breakdown unit for easy traveling. The xb package did cost more than the regular 1266x.... I believe it was about 100.00 to 150.00 dollars more than a regular 1266x. Also you forgot to add the 1260x in your list of 1200 series detectors. This was the first unit with the pistol grip configuration and I can remember getting my first 1260x back in about 1982. It was a great detector and so much more comfortable to use than the 1220x I was using at the time. I still wouldn't feel undergunned using any of the 1200x series detectors today....they were that good.
