what is the difference between quantum xt and qtx pro?

ohio fred

Well-known member
Can you update software in them and are they a good machine compare to now machine mxt,xlt ect. thanks and what would be a good price for one in fair shape.

I don't know the difference between the two, but I do know that the software can not be updated. The new Vision from Whites is the only detector that might be able to have it's software updated. In fact Whites is currently discussing how to update the Vision firmware to deal with a volume issue.

They're the same Fred. You could update the chip in a Quantum II To make it a QXT, thats all I know of. I am waiting to get mine, once I do I'll post some results as no-one seems to talk about this machine.

ALL ELSE SEEMS TO BE THE SAME PER DESCRIPTIONS.Must have been some change, but can't seem to find it except decals..and I don't know exact frequency of the Xt Quantum...................QXT pro was lumped in with the XL pro,and IDX pro models in advertising..so may have been a name change for advertising purposes.

The lesser machine was the Quantum II.........it had three programs turn on and go...

Hope this helped

Yes, there were 3 variants, although the Quantum XT and QXT Pro are the same machine-different looks. I think the QII and Quantum XT were released in 1996. They came out with the "PRO" series about 2001 which included the IDX PRO, XL PRO, AND QXT PRO. They made the QXT pro up to 2006 from what I've read but it wasn't in the Whites catalogs that I could find. Seems to be an interesting machine that nobody really liked or could figure out, although the people that have figured them out love them and swear by them. I'll let you know what I think when I get mine.

I think..been awhile.

I think there were only 3 models, the Quantum XT, Quantum II, and then the QXT Pro. Interesting that there is so little information about these machines.

Greg

Don't know why I was thinking there was a Quantum..........Like I said been a long time.
Sorry if I miss quoted the models.

Quantum ll...Quantum XT...Then the final version, the QXT Pro. Quantum XT and QXT Pro are same machine with just different decals. I might add, the Quantum and QXT Pro had the best target tone qualities and modulation of any detector I have found. IMHO

U can up date this unit I did and it does make a diff . Call the service center for details! mine was a Q II / to a / QXT program w a 8" coil ! great unit ! gottit

Hey yaw thanks for the great info!
I am considering obtaining a Quantum XT Pro with the stock 9" coil and was wondering if this is a multi tone machine ?
What is the best coil to use on this dinosaur?
It will be used in North Carolina soil & beach for coin & jewelry.
Is this a decent antique low res. machine for doing so?
Thanks!

It has 2 tones that you can assign to the target's you want. I think most set the higher tone to where the coins might be and lower tones to where the trash items are. I am currently looking for one myself,But only in good condition. There was a new old stock one on the bay I bided on,But it got too high for me as it sold close to 500.00! I went to 400.00 because it was new,But I wouldn't go that high. The ones I have seen are mostly beat to death. I want a nice one as they are no longer made and who knows how much longer they can be serviced.

I bought a White's Quantum II and sent it to White's for the Quantum XT Pro chip. It came back all new looking with new Quantum XT Pro decals. Works good and the scrolling sizing display is helpful in determining the target.

I talked with the White's tech and he told me there in no difference in the software betweent he Quantum XT and the XT Pro.

I use CritterHunters tips which are:

- Sensitivity as high as possible while maintainging stability. I can get up to 17 out of 20 without false ground signals.
- Run with Noise Reduction off for deeper targets.
- Turn offi ground tracking and just ground balance when needed.
- Accept all target ranges and assign high tones to Zone 7 for silver and copper coins.
