Was it measured depth, or estimated?
What size coil were you using?

1834 Bust Dime @ 10 inches. Estimated based on what was left out of the hole on my Predator Tools digger. Was using an 12 X10 SEF.

I dug a clad dime at 10 0r 11 inches. I dug the hole deeper and pulled out some flakes of rusty iron. The dime was in the sidewall of the hole at 10 or 11. I havent dug many silver dimes. I think my total in 4 months is only 8 and 4 silver quarters. I have dug many more silver rings, pendants and jewelry findings. Idigid

the deepest i have found a silver dime was 8 inches , or any silver for that matter . what was wild was this past saturday i found a 1942 wheat at 11 inches and the signal was pretty good 43 all the way down and even 43 with the probe in the hole , same day found another wheat at maybe 10 and a 1961 at around 10 , the 1942 was laying flat , all 3 were clean pennies just red color ,i am a penny killer it appears. i have noticed if they come out clean looking they ring up like a dime almost , the roached ones that are crusted and green are iffy and i might skip alot , and dont find those too deep. same day i dug down 12 inches and was sure i had a silver dime 12-43 every angle , 12-43 in the hole and it was a piece of scrap aluminum about the size of a dime...oh i was using a eastern european tornado coil , and was playing with sensitivity maybe 27 manual (i think)

Found a Silver Rosie Dime at a measured 9 inches +.

:detecting:In the last post, I mentioned that I found a 1902 Barber Dime 10 inches deep.

That said, one last thing I'd like to mention is that, finding a barber dime, or any dime for that matter, at 10 inches deep is very unusual. Most of the time 6 or 8 inches is about the maximum.

You hear a lot of talk on these forums about people finding coins 8 or ten inches or more deep. But, most of the time, I don't think these people actually measure how deep their coins really are. Very few people are going to carry a tape measure with them. They just estimate. And, most of the time they estimate too deep.

A neat trick I've found for measuring coin depth is to take a tape measure and some type of marker and mark off the distance from the end of your pinpointer in one inch increments. Write the numbers on the side of your pinpointer with the marker. That way if you find something you can put the end of the pinpoint down in the bottom of the hole and see how deep it is by looking at the distance marks on the side of the pin pointer. Works like a charm!
