What is the DD coil "wiggle" method, ACE 350 ?

Ive been doing research and did some air testing tonight...I just got my ace 350 today. Ive been reading that DD coils love bottle caps.....BUT that there is a way to know its a bottle cap......Ive read that if you run the tip of the DD coil over the target and it "bloops" and when you run the center of the coil over the target and it "dings" then its a bottle cap ?
Is this true.....? Does it matter what mode its in ? I would like to hunt in relic mode.
THANKS !!

Well, you can hunt in any mode you'd like. However, in order to check whether a target which indicates with belltone is indeed a coin or instead a bottle cap,(while using a DD search coil) it is best to switch to motion all metal mode (or zero on the 350 I believe). "Wiggle" (move left to right two to four inches) the center strip of the DD search coil in a fairly rapid manner over the top of the target and bring the search coil back towards you(or push it forward away from you for that matter). If, as the target just passes outside of the edge of the tip of the search coil it registers as iron, then it is likely a bottle cap. If it continues to belltone it is likely a coin. This really only works on shallow targets(less than four inches).
This can be done in any mode, but the iron tone will be heard in all metal mode. In other search modes just keep an eye on the screen to see if cursor registers under iron icon.
I hope I made sense of this and didn't confuse you.
Me? I'd dig up the bottle cap to make sure it wasn't masking a good target underneath it. Unless there's just so many bottle caps around I got sick and tired of diggin' em all.
Oh yeah, that "wiggle" is described in the owner's manual under pinpointing.
Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
