Tesoro and coil. I am looking for a great set up to try out . I am looking for depth and seperation. I am a jewely and coin hunter. TY GS.

I asked the same question here, two years ago and ended up with a Vaquero . It paid for itself in about four months.I found jewerly , old coins and relics with it. I only have the stock coil but am ready to purchase a smaller one. Maybe other machines are better but Ive been more than satisfied with the Vaq.

You won't be disappointed with any Tesoro detector. Right now, I'm head over heals in love with my Tesoro Outlaw. I'm having a ball with it.

Tesoro has a special going on right now. You get the Outlaw and 3 coils. I don't know how long the special is going to last. I think it's just an introductory offer.

It's a fantastic deal if you don't already have some coils.

Like tabman, I have and enjoy the Outlaw too. But not knowing whether you are a beginner or not, Im not sure Id recommend it if its your first. It was my first detector and its a quirky machine if you dont have a firm grasp of basic metal detector functions. I didnt (and still dont!). However, I was pretty sure I was going to be serious about this hobby and I didnt want to grow out of my first detector too soon so i took the plunge.

I ended up buying the simpler Silver umax and a Compadre later on anyway. funny how that works.

If you know about detectors from experience with others, I agree with Tabman, the Outlaw is pretty versatile and a good bargain. If you're just getting into the swing of things it can be a mysterious machine--at least it has been for me. However, I dont think its the machine's fault.

I also cannot attest to its jewelry-finding capabilities, as I only use it for coin and opportunistic relic hunting. I rarely have the disc set lower than just above tab.

GroundScanner look at the Metal Detector Classified Forum. There is a Cibola in great looking condition for $229 right now. That's a great detector and thats a very good price.

Thanks guys, i did see the cibola and was thinking i need a manual gb nob with my bad soil. I was thinking the outlaw but with the pinpoint i see its not only for pinpointing.

The outlaw package ishard to beat with coils to cover any situation at a very reasonable price.

For the last month I have been hunting with my Vaq and a 5.75" concentric coil.
Depth, target separation, rapid recovery...all amazing!

I too am in love with the Outlaw, one thing for sure always take all three coils with you, you will find that you will be changing them in the field for the special occasions that come up. Yesterday i pulled a two inch piece of silver chain at 6" and it sounded out strong, in fact i had the 8' coil on and lifted it another two to three inches and still had a good signal.

Like any detector the more you use it the better you understand it but this unit is a real Treasure Hunter !!!

If you've got bad soil / mineralized ground, getting a DD coil will help you out a lot. The Outlaw 3 coil package just happens to have a DD coil :)

If you have bad soil, you'll definitely need a detector with an adjustable ground balance.

If you're detecting in areas were there's a bunch or iron, the Outllaw is a good pick. The Vaquero and Outlaw both have a manual ground balance.

Monte says he detects in really bad soil and I believe he mainly uses a 7 inch or 5.75 concentric coil.

The Vaquero is deeper, but I find myself grabbing the Outlaw most of the time, because I like how smooth it runs. I also like the its audio better.

Thanks guys, i may be having a new outlaw in the future. I like that it has 3 coils . The only thing that worries me is that pinpoint button. I read back someone was having problems with it . Something about retuning it, not sure. I never did go back and see if he cleared it up or not. So if i get one i sure will be asking a few ?'s. ty GS.
