What is the best wide scan for Golden uMax?

I was hoping to get some advice on the best wide-scan (DD) coil choice for the Golden uMax (old tones). I want something that will help in bad soil, separate out trash better, but will not change or distort how the machine's tones discriminate (in other words, what comes closest to the settings with the 9 x 8 concentric stock coil). I was thinking that the 7" round wide-scan might do the trick? Any thoughts please?

Great choice the 7"DD is my favorite coil for the 5 pin Tesoro's . I have not used it on a Golden Umax but have on several other Tesoros ( one a Golden Sabre 2 ) and I had found it to have all the qualities you are looking for .

Sounds like the right sized coil your looking at. Tesoro also used to make a 8.5" widescan, never used one but you might do a little research into that one as well. After that your going to some good sized coils for widescan and that's gonna hurt your trash separating.

Thanks for your input guys, hopefully a few more will offer some insight. Was wondering how the 8.5 widescan might serve? I want as much depth along with that target separation. Is there much difference in performance between the 7 and 8.5? Also, was thinking down the road about the Outlaw 3-coil package (waiting to see what the Caz will be first), would the 8.5 be too close to the 10 x 12 widescan?

I really like that 10X12 widescan coil Tesoro makes. That's 12" long though compared to the 8.5 so that's a pretty good difference in size. If you go to the Tesoro website and click the "coils" link then click the epsilon link you will see all 4 of the widescans they now offer lined up. The 7", 8.5" and 12X10 are pretty much in perspective but the Cleansweep picture isn't as its got a full 6" in length over the 12X10.
I would think you would get the least depth from the cleansweep and then depth would increase as each coil got larger in size.

Another question I have regarding the widescans and the Golden.... will the Golden still identify/notch out steel bottle caps using a DD coil?

Was wondering if anyone can tell me how the 7" widescan does as far as allowing the GUmax to notch bottlecaps out?

The majority of steel crown type bottle caps notch out as a zinc penny. There are still some that ring up as high tone but they sound harsh.

DD coils decrease discrimination abilities, not increase them. You have to learn how to use this to your favor.

I liked the 8 1/2" widescan on the Golden and the Cortes. Its a good coil. I liked the big 11" Widescan too.

Put you some racing strips up the center to help with the pinpointing.

I have used the 12x10 widescan coil that comes with the Outlaw 3 coil package and found it to be a very good coil. It looked big after using the 5.75" but it is very light and easy to swing, surprising sensitive for a coil its size.
