What is the best pinpointer?

Pepper54

New member
I borrowed a Whites Bullseye pinpointer, and liked it so well I bought the Bullseye II. (I actually liked the Bullseye I better though, it seemed to have more depth.)

I want a pinpointer that has a little depth - say 2 plus inches, maybe one with adjustable sensitivity, but not necessary if it gets good depth.

Another nice option would be for it to be water proof, the tip of it anyway.

Thanks,

There is 2 I recommend that are excellent. One is the Sun Ray in line pinpointer that works off the electronic of the detector. Depth is great and being it runs off the detector it will work as a disc probe and do everything the main coil does except have the depth of the coil. The problem is these are not made for all detector and in that case I find the Uniprobe built into the headphones has really great depth, but will not disc like the Sun Ray. I have Sun Rays on my Explorer SE, the Sovereign GT and my wife's MXT and have the Uniprobe for the F-75 I have and any detector I try as I am spoiled after using a good pinpointing probe and hard to detect without one now.

I have had the Sunray DX1 on my MXT for only a short while. Great addition to the arsenal. Gets two to three inches in the soil, or should I say clay, around here. Hands down the best I have ever used.
Vibra-probe For Sale!

The Sun Ray probe. They claim three inches but it will get five plus you can actually detect with it. I have a field test on it on the Garrett Forum.

Since the Sun Ray is a mini motion detector, if you whip it fast over a target you can add another couple of inches in depth.

I use several machines so I like having a stand-alone pinpointer. The Tinytec is quite a bargain and works great. You can check them out at:

My Grand children use my other pinpointers ever since I installed a Sunray x1 probe on my explorerII well over a year ago. I feal it's the best , & you don't have to worry about looseing it. Great depth also.

Its all in what you want. The sunray is good but it only works on that brand your using. If won't work on a defendant brand of detector. I use a treasure mate it gets good depth and i can use it on all brands. And it dont add weight to the detector. But its up to you. HH

sunray hands down!!!!! Sooooooo much more versatile, and stronger/deeper. Like the others said, if you're gonna be using other detectors put a sunray on your favorite and get a vibra probe to use with any others.

I have a sunray on my explore 11 and uniprobe headset that I use on my troy x5 as well as on other machines love its versatility. The price was high but no regrets. I also use a vibra probe for water hunting after scooping swirl it in the stones to hit the target.I just bought another uniprobe only the pocket one to turn it into a waterproof pinpointer worth a try I think, just need a light tied to the speaker for visual indication of the target and make it water tight. I have used the Sun Ray S-1 on my Sovereign and I liked it but once I got my pocket UP, I took the S-1 off.
The PUP clip's right onto your pocket and you can hang the probe over the top of it... very convenient and it work's VERY well. You can also add a shaft and a coil and have a pulse detector.

I thought about the add-on shaft/coil for the Uni-probe, just don't know how well it works.
Have:
Sunray - on Explorer II
Uniprobe
Vibra probe 560
Wizard
F*Point - the one that came with the F-75 (haven't tried it)

Now ya got me thinking about that shaft/coil add-on.
