What is quick mask and how is it used...and for what?:detecting:

Sometimes I will hear a chirp or small sound that I can't zero in on and by hitting the QM button it removes all discrimination and often times result in a very good find. Just another tool in the box to help you decide whether to dig or not. Try it before walking away just takes a second. Hope this helps. HH :minelab:

The idea is that where there is DISC loaded into the SmartFind screen, the audio and display does not react to it. The treshold hum will often drop or null when you pass over a DISC target. By switching temporarily to the QuickMask screen, you can have it set to open (mostly no DISC) and get a quick look at where the cursor is hitting.

That's about it. You can hunt in the QuickMask screen. You can load patterns into the QuickMask screen that you've edited in the SmartFind screen. But really, it is just meant as a way to have two patterns of DISC that you can switch back and forth between.
