I will get a picture of this "rock" I found today in an old park. it is very small about the size of a dime. It came up as a zinc penny, when I dug it up I found this rock. It is a little smooth on one surface and looks like a dark rock. Any ideas before I post a picture?

LOL. You will be lucky if it can ID -ed with a picture. Without one,,no chance!!! We could could all give a bunch of guesses if you want.

My guess,,,,something melted in a fire,,,penny or lead.

Good Luck,,post a picture or 2.

Too many possibilities, obvious metallic in nature which could include many minerals and there is the "way out" chance of a meteorite. Is it magnetic? A not too common mineral I find occasionally around here is Coke, a very hard coal used too fuel blast furnaces. The common term used to lump your find into is a "hot rock".

I am waiting for the digital camera to recharge. It is very light for its size. Doesn't feel very dense, I will check to see if it is magnetic. I can get it to air test as a penny. I found this lovely item in an old park.
