You might try something as basic as a tape measure or even just a coin so folks will know if it's 5mm or 2" or a foot.
How about more than 3 words?
"What is it???"
Was it found on an 18th century fishing village site in New England, a 19th century wheat farm site in North Dakota or a 17th century town site in Florida?
