A co-worker and I went out during lunch today for a little medal detecting and found a few items. Got lucky with a 1944 Mercury Dime but this item in particular has us wondering. Anyone have any ideas?

As you can see it's a little bigger than the size of a Kennedy Half Dollar or maybe a Silver Dollar. It appears to be made of copper and is non magnetic. Also it is very thin.

Yeah sorry about that. In the first pic the "rock" is not part of the lid but there only to prop it up like GoGoGopher stated. On a side note that "rock" is pretty strange also. Found it in the same area as the other stuff. Its metalic and according to the readings we got has some silver in it. We are thinking the site we found this stuff at used to be an old home and perhaps it burned down decades ago. Seems to be a lot of stuff in the ground in this area to make someone think there used to an old house there.

Lol, never studied it close up. Nice little rock you found. Well anyway thats too funny I completely overlooked it. Should have known something was different by the looks of the other pics. :heh:

Looks like a lid to an old round snuff can.

Snuff can lid...

That's exactly what I thought, edjcox, when I was a kid (I'm 49) we could buy snuff and the cans had a pattern to them just like the one on that lid. I 'd say you nailed it.

I'd guess it to be the lid from a womans compact of some sort...
