I will give you a little history on the area I was searching in today. Late 1800's early 1900's this area used to be a mining zone. Several 40 plus years ago they turned it into a park. Now they have a newer area that is the park today. I searched in the old park and found this. I was about 8 inches down. I was reading as a coil at the high end like 50 cent piece or dollar. I don't know what it is made of maybe you have an idea???? None the less I thought you might have an idea on what it is?????
Thanks,
Dave

hi dk, it looks to be an old bridle boss. the holes held rivets that attached to the horse's leather harness. looks to be made of iron too. good find, and a good indicator of how old the area is. hh,

That is interesting... Some times I wish we could ask the things we find to tell us more about yourself. I would have never thought that's what it was.
