I will ask this question here because I don't know where to go to find the answer. I found a heavy chunk of something that a magnet will stick to and is about 1.75 long, 1.25 wide and .75 thick. I tossed it back one time and found it again so I kept it. I was hunting at a swimming beach many years ago in south central Pa.
The rock or whatever was in my box of finds for years and I got it out about a week ago to look it over. It just so happens I ordered a book on Space Rocks written by O.R.Norton and it came in the mail last week.
This rock shows no signs of melting like most meteorites do, I found a picture of the same type of rock in the book but that one had specks of nickel all over the surface.
Well I washed the rock today and guess what, tiny specks of something that looks like nickel all over the thing. OK now I'm interested, where do I go to find out what this thing is??
I don' t want to take up space on this forum so can someone tell me what forum to go to or where to get this thing checked out?

Can anyone help?

why would you toss it back instead of throwing it in the trash can like we should always do?

A few links on youtube about identifying metiorites if it helps;

Why would I toss it back? because it looks like a rock, if I remove every rock I come across I will not be welcome in anyone swimming hole. Besides that I did find it again and took it with me because I thought it might be a pc of junk steel.
