What is "Hot ground"?

Mosley

New member
I have been learning about my Ace 250 by reading past threads on this forum. I have read about "Hot ground". What is that?

:usaflag:Well I guess it could either mean that the ground is unhunted or the more likely that it's highly mineralized. Help him out guys..

The only other hot ground I am aware of is the place all the politicians go to when they die. lol

It is where the camp fire was last night. I found it when i got up to do what you do at about 2:00 AM. Watch Out for that.

I live in New Mexico, and in the summer we have plenty of "Hot ground", but I guess that is not a problem for metal detectors. Old Katz, you are right, why is that a problem, and what can be done about it.

Yeah- I love the "hot ground" definition of unsearched sites! On the serious side, it's why the Ace's primary setting is 3-4 bars sensitivity. In East Texas it's hard pan with iron pyrite and the coins at most schools don't sink very deep. Neither does the trash and thus the reason I'm in 3 bars most of the time. Finally I get to a loamy soil and get to see the Ace "get with it" at higher sensitivity=4 bars:rofl: I've tried MANY times at 6 bars (factory preset) and the signal was, if anything, clearer at 4 bars. Most importantly, though, is the fact that I regularly find quarters at 5-6" and the dang machine is FUN to use. I went out today, found about $2 and a cub scout pin (read pulltab) in the jewelry mode. I'm thinking about getting the 150 since I don't use the pinpoint button anyway.. My dilemna is I've fallen in love with the sniper coil but need another machine with the larger coil for the sometimes 3 football fields long schools I search. I miss the relics mode on the 150 so much I may end up with another 250. I tried jewelry today to see if I could live with it as my lowest search mode.
