[size=large]I'm referring to those using it on the salt water beaches and for nugget hunting applications. That's what it was designed for.
When it was first talked about just prior to it's release, all the 'hype' was about how it would compare with some of the popular deep silver coin hunting models from Minelab, mainly their Explorer series. While the TDI can be taken into an old park and can find some deep silver coins, there is no visual Target ID and no visual Coin Depth to help isolate those targets that are more likely to be copper or silver and over 3", for example. There's no audio Tone ID, that some like to use.
So, initially, all the hot talk was found here on these often-read forums, but these are where most coin hunters hang out. Okay, relic hunters, also, but typically those 'average' hobbyists. The TDI is not an 'average' detector.
You don't see people asking for reports on the GMT (Gold master Tracker) on this forum, because it was made for a specific task that most 'average' hobbyists are not into. Well, so was the TDI. More versatile than the GMT, but not for everyone. Not in their price range, not with the features they mostly want.
I'm certain that in time, by mid-Spring or 2009, perhaps, we will have many more reports from those who have learned the TDI and used it in the environment it was meant for, and the tasks it's best at.
Just my lengthy opinion.
