What is going on with my Excal 1000

I'm getting to test out my Excal in the water for the first time this week in Florida. The surf and wind is too rough to get more than knee deep. It is fun and I found my first gold today.

However, something is going on with the machine in Disc. When it hits a target the threshold changes from it's normal tone to a buzz and slightly higher volume.

I can still hunt with it, but have to continually adjust for it. Turn pinpoint on and then back and it (the buzz) goes away.

Anyone know what is going on with this?

TIA

Alton

It's working normally.
In disc mode the threshold pitch sets to the conductivity value of the last target until it sees another target.

That means that you passed over iron. The threshold changes to the iron tone and stays that way until you pass over a different non iron target. If you detect a quarter, then the threshold will stay that of a quarter until the next target. Don't worry it is working properly, it is designed this way. Sovereigns do the same thing.

Does that behavior include nulling out from iron? Seems like a lot of times I can't keep anything near a constant threshold on my Sov--it just goes silent a lot of the time. Just realized recently that it does it more in some locations than others and started wondering if it was related to the presence of a lot of iron, iron in the soil, something else yet, or if I just haven't figured something out.

its normal , when it gets the loud bumblebee buzz just wave your scoop or shovel past the coil that ought to get you back to normal sound.........

The Sovereign will null on any item disc out plus it hates iron, so it will null quite a bit even at the disc set as low as it will go. When it nulls too much you have to go slower and turn down the sensitivity if it is real bad.

it may be normal or it may be like something that happens on my sovereign when the batteries are getting weak. the threshhold gets loader after detecting a target.

Since I was out of town I didn't get back to the computer in time to let you all know I found out what you have been posting.

I stopped by Pompano Beach to Riellys Treasure Gold and they explained everything for me.

Thanks again!
