What is below 70 on the 180 meter

grumpy

New member
I have been playing around with the 180 meter and records of targets. I find that you can find darn near any and everything between 70 and 180 but what is the general target you would find from 70 down to 0 ??? I dont recall having ever paid attention to that one :unsure:
Anyone could shed some light would appreciate it.
Thanks
Grumpy

PS. I know most hunt by sounds and you are supposed to "listen" to the sounds but when you cant hear Numbers are real handy.

my records show foil and small bits of can slaw; also thin gold ladys rings.
I hope this helps but you should check your detector/meter to see if it holds
true with yours. Also check at different hights and in A/M

Thanks 18 : I did a bunch of tests and all just to see if there were anywhere on the meter that you did not need to dig if you had a good repeatable signal and found nearly anything is possible above 70. Like a Morgan will hit 70 72 if you are on edge and high 170's on the flat. Between coins, IHCs and all and rings you can find things about anywhere in those ranges but I didnt find anything in the range below 70 that I felt worth digging????
You also mentioned the older mod. gold machine in another post. Do you think the 2200 and older ones are a good investment for the amature in a PI machine. ?? I have also looked into the new White PI with disc. ??
Thanks for the help and
Happy Hunting

Afraid I can't be of much help as far as the older ones go, If someone uses brand X machine and has
great luck with it; will someone else have the same luck or have the same satisfaction ? Other peoples
op ion are only of value to you if you want it to be, that's just the way we think as humans. As I said be for
if I am going for gold, I will use a machine that was designed and built to find gold not as a line or two in
some body's AD just to get someone that knows no better to buy it. I know you are old enough and smart
enough to know there are no free rides in life or detectors. As a oh yea I forgot to add on the list Platinum
rings can also show up in the low end of the 180's readings. I am also learning that as the distance increases
( depth ) the readings will be much lower. To under stand this fully and what it really means to you try this;
do an air test starting at four or five inches with a coin ( be sure meter reads 180 ) then increase distance
a inc he at a time and watch the numbers drop and then just go nut's; what did the sounds do during this test?
I use the 180 meter with a 8' coinsearch coil and have had great luck with it but still dig all targets because I
know what happens as the targets get deeper.
After re-reading both your post to my first answer and this post I will add this rather than re type this whole thing;
Any of the large Minelab gold detectors are wonderful machines but anyone of them is VERY heavy ( the bat terry
alone for mine weighs 4lb.s ) they are not that hard to learn but be ready and able to dig VERY DEEP holes; and
all of them are HIGH DOLLAR investments ( price on a new one will test your want to as well as your can do ) but
if you by used that can be overcome like anything else. The other GOLD machines they built in the past were good
but parts for repairs may be a problem ( you pays four money and takes your chances ) But one thing you can bet
on is that if you swing it's coil over any gold ( at depth's that are hard to be live ) in any kind of ground it's found in
that line of detectors WILL FIND it.
