The Bandido 2 Micromax just seems to have all the best features of all the Tesoro models, but in one detector. The thing that makes it unique is that it has a true "no motion" all metal mode, as well as a regular "motion all metal" mode. Both are activated by a simple switch, so you can use the all metal no motion to pinpoint with. And then you hit the spring loaded toggle into "retune" and it shrinks the signal to make it easy to pinpoint within a couple inches. It's also handy for sizing the target and judging depth.
Overall, I believe they are "hyped" because they offer all the features to make it a great do anything kind of machine. They run smooth and quiet in iron, have a great disc circuit, and the two All Metal modes are easy to switch in and out of on the fly. They are just a great versatile detector. I jumped at the chance to trade my old Tejon for a nice one, and I don't regret it. Try one sometime, and if you are a Tesoro guy you will see what the fuss is about. The Outlaw is basically the same detector, but with a single multi function pushbutton replacing the toggles on the Bandido.
