What is a good smaller coil for the Etrac?

Hi,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a smaller coil for the Etrac? I have a few extremely trashy spots that are full of iron, more than 2 nails or iron bit for every square foot. I've found some silver coins in there but it is pretty tough to detect with the stock 11" coil. I've been using two tone, with fast and high trash on. I can hear all the iron - I swing very slowly and I hear "beep beep beep" from all the iron in the ground. Does anyone have experience with a smaller coil for the Etrac?

The 5" SunRay coil is excellent in trashy areas and go's real deep, as I have gotten wheats at 8" with no problem. The 8" SunRay also is great in trash too.

Yep, Ditto on the 5" SunRay coil. Seems so small on the end, but it can hunt. I have an iron infested area. Hit it with the 11" stock coil. Did ok. Then put on the little coil, and found the stuff I missed. You can pick between the iron very nicely.

Been hunting with a Excelerator EQ2 Pro 6" coil .Bought 5-2010 . Would not trade it for a larger coil .Slow going , but good for high trash! Excellent coin producer.I HAVE dug coins at 9". 5" Sunray is really good too!

I use a 6x8 sef quite a lot, really like it, but I also have the 5 inch sunray and like it too.....it just takes a lot of swinging back and forth with a 5-incher to cover any amount of ground. Have found good stuff with both....in the same sites!

I've been using a 6" Excellerator Coil all season - it's one fantastic coil - great depth - real nice separation in iron - no hangups on brush stubble like open spoked coils - gets in tight spots, etc.

Here's a link to Bryce Brown's ( the Moderator of the Findmall - Minelab Explorer Forum) field tests on different coils - a lot of great info. here !
