What IS a bottle probe? (and r my bottles rare):look:

Hi, I'm new to the bottle hunting scene and I was just wondering, what is a bottle probe?? I've already got two bottles, one is a dark brown (has a screw cap, does that mean its not worth much?) and has just pics of wheat on it, could that refer the wiskey? My other one is a berleys bottle without a date, I don't think its valuable because its got the ring on the bottom that means it was machine built..

Phil, a bottle probe is a thin metal rod with a T-handle, normally they are like 4 to 5 feet long! In the old days, some could push down a metal probe and could tell if they touched bottles or just old iron debri! I never could tell, so if the object is very wide and deep, I may probe but generally like to dig it out just to make sure! Old bottle dumps are fun to locate and sift thru!..........................HAPPY HOLIDAYS.......................Joe
