What iron disc. reading goes with what negative VDI?

Trying to figure out where iron targets drop out, VDI reading vs. Disc. Fisher doesn't say squat and it would be really helpful to know. There are a lot of desireable targets that will give negative VDI readings, but going through the painful procedure of swinging over a target then playing with the menu upteen times would be a major pain in the butt. I'm hoping someone has already done this. ..Willy.

not sure I understand fully what your asking?

I sold my Coin strike for an Edge-id, but while I had it I only dug positive number signals with her. What makes you say there are good things that read negative?

In my experience all (-) should be iron if that's what you mean? Or if you meant what size iron is what number than that I wouldn't know.

dig it,
Jack

This is what I want to find out: Say you've got an iron reading of -32, what iron disc. setting would knock it out (silence the audio)? How 'bout a -17 reading, where would that be knocked out on the disc. scale? -64? -47? As for what would read in the negatives... small gold, Canadian dimes, quarters, nickles (the new ones), Iron artifacts (tools, ox shoes, etc). As for not knowing.. well, you've got company!! ..Willy.

I've dug Canadian ones...unless some new ones are a wierd metal. Small gold is a single digit reading...say a +06 or so (like foil). Try some airtesting to get a better idea of what things read. Big iron like ox shoes & tools will usually fool the ID, especially if shallow, into a positive number. Not a bad thing in my opinion, as I have a couple colonial trade axes and a cannonball...great relic finds that thankfully read positive. In theory the C$ negative side SHOULD always be small iron like square nails, or unwanted junk. I, and most other C$ users have done pretty well just digging positive readings, and the C$ does real well with proper target IDing @ depths...
You may want to search out the "coinstrike homepage" for more info as well.
Hope that helped,
Bill

Well, I've got both the Coinstrike and a Goldstrike and a 3 grain test nugget. Well, surprise, surprise.. negative # readings. This isn't unique to the Fisher detectors; the MXT, GMT, and a number of other detectors will read the same, especially in highly mineralised ground. The same holds true for modern Canadian dimes, quarters, and nickles. They can give an okay signal some times, and solid iron others. The dimes are the worst. While air tests sans ground signal are fine to see if the detector works or if the ground is more or less neutral, hot ground renders them moot. Just laying a target on such ground can radically shift the ID. ...Willy.

or real hot soil. Yes, that would make a big difference I guess. In my East coast state, when I think small gold items I think of little earings, charms, etc. They all read positive, & the grounds not all that hot to affect anything that much....
You'll have to get back to us and let us know if you find a way around that stuff you face in your area.
HH,
Bill

Well, so far the secret is to dig into the iron range. I've nugget/relic hunted down in AZ and the soil here is considerably hotter in my stomping grounds. Makes things harder, but also 'causes other MD'ers to leave a lot of goodies in the ground for Willy. ...Willy.
