What influences YOUR sweep speed?

I am under the impression that for maximum depth you need a sweep speed on the faster side. What influences your sweep speed and how do you tweak your settings on your machine? I have a DFX. I could be wrong because I'm new at this, but I believe my depth in influenced most by Gain, AC Sensitivity, Ground Filter and Swing Speed. I'm trying to understand this relationship and move beyond the factory presets. I have "Digging Deeper with the DFX", but I'm interested to know what other White's owners are doing to attain maximum depth. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for looking. HH. Matt

Hi Matthias,
I have very little experience with the DFX so I can't comment on that machine. I use an MXT most of the time and the main factor that influences my sweep speed is trashiness i.e. overall # of targets and depth of targets. I think I naturally sweep a little on the fast side but when I get into trash and/or multiple targets, I will slow down my speed as far as necessary to get some separation between signals. Also, if I'm in an area that is possibly holding deeper targets, I will make sure I am sweeping slow enough to pick up the fainter, shorter signals. I think It might not be that a slower sweep speed goes deeper but that slower sweeps allow you to pick up the deeper signals. JMHO

The Signagraph on my QXT Pro influences my sweep speed...The speed has to be just right, or the graph does not read correctly...It takes a little practice, but once you get it, it is almost automagic...There are times I sweep fast over targets (multiple target signals near each other, deep target), to try to get a better picture of what is actually there...

HH,

Using xlt you are suppose to sweep fast for best depth. But it really depends on setting and area.Adjusting recovery speed setting vid setting mixed mode setting allows me to move fast or slow through a area.I think each person finds there speed they are comfortable with.Trashy area i might jack up recovery speed to 30 maybe turn vid down so target has to be stronger to break through and i may adjust what i discriminate out to arrive at what speed i will cover a area .Hope this helped answer your question some

I run mxt idx modified xlt fisher id excell ace 250 .But the xlt being dfx little brother.Lately i have been making adjustments to vid recovery speed and as you say pre amp gain first then ac then dc .Dc when iam in mixed mode for a little more depth. The mixed mode is noisy so i turn on silent search and turn up target volume it takes a little more stronger target to break through. But seem to get a little more depth sometimes i run tone id to hear better target.Today in my post i ran the xlt target volume 60 ac 67 dc 40 vid 80 discrimination accept 10 to +25, +49 to +51 , 60 T0+94.I KNOW WHAT EVERYONE IS GOING TO SAY.I dug very little trash and a lot of coins and ring dug mostly pull-tabs but know nickels:shrug:Used 9 inch coil was getting some good depth between surface to 7 inches pre amp 4 to 6 are area is hard to go beyond that are geb hear on xlt 40 sometimes 60.I adjust the recovery speed fast in trashy areas and slow in clean areas i also adjust my track speed if auto trac is on and my sat speed because iam in mixed mode. :detecting:I went into the jewelry beach program and made adjustments only takes a few second but what a nice quite ride and hardly any trash.Yes around hear there is a lot of aluminum trash i know the theory dig everything, but sometimes i just don't want to dig cans all day.Hope this helped some
