High there, never new this forum existed. I have been detecting for a month now and I have a bad fever for this . I found this one item in a 6 inch hole not far from the dime in the pic. It looks just like a little book , made of brass I think. 1 and 3/4 wide by 1and 1/4. wedge shape . my friend told me the picture on the front is of maybe old english type . there is a horse pulling a carriage really 2 horses, there is a rider on the front and maybe a lookout on the back of the carriage ,there are two women on the ground standing by the carriage ,sorry for the pics are lousy. thanks for any response and thank you for this site . LUKE..

yes thats what I thought to, money clip.. the edges are real thin almost to sharp. wish I could show better pics, something must have went inside of it. thanks for the reply and I have more stuff I have to post on here so glad I found this site ......... LUKE

It's definately a matchbox cover.

Thanks for all the responses. Matchbox Cover is what my neighbor told me also, he has been in the antique and junk biz for over 50 years, said it had a filigree design on the metal and it was for the shortt type matches , pretty old "he said." Just like the dirt I found it in.. HH ALL

I have no clue to it's purpose. The bottom edge looks rough as if broken. Perhaps there is some missing which would give a definite ID on it.
