What I would like to see on the X-Terra posts.

I am really liking what I read about the X-Terra 70. More than once though, an interesting post had me wondering what coil was being used. Since there are three, and more on the way, it may help to mention what coil you were using in your report. For those that remember, it would be helpful for those of us learning from your experiences. Thanks.

I should recieve MY XT-70 wensday next week....I will be using the 3khz coil for the first moth or so of use.......And if I make some good finds by next Sunday.......I will post them here...Take into account that I am only a Newbee with Minelab, but I have been in the hobby 12+ years, and have used about 11 different models in 6 other brand names.
Have a Nice Weekend and HH

I'll be watching for your posts. The XT-70 is getting some great reviews, so I think you made a good choice. I've been into detecting since the early 60's but have yet to try a Minelab. This XT-70 may be the one that gets my sale.

If you have 12+ years of experience than you should pick up on the performance of the X-Terra 70 in no time at all. It is an excellent detector with ample, yet functional, adjustment features.

But I would suggest that you use the stock 7.5 kHz coil for the first few weeks to a month and then, once you know how the X-T 70 performs as 'standard' you can use accessory coils. That way you will know what, if any, enhancements or benefits you might gain compared with a stock set-up.

Let me welcome you to Minelab! I've only been into this great hobby since March of 1965, and have owned twelve (12) Minelabs and most of the rest of them at some point (or used them enough), and the X-T 70 is my primary-use model. I also have my X-T 50, modified IDX Pro and Shadow X5 to make sure all my wants and needs are covered.

Happy Hunting!

Thank You Monte, I have been reading your posts on forums for over a year now ,and I value your feedback.I had read you have some pretty bad soil where you are,and that the 3 khz coil may come in handy for you.I get allot of grief here if I turn my sens much past the pre-set level on most all my detectors..So I thought the 3 k coil would have been nice, But I WILL take your suggestions ,and start with the 7.5 k coil...
Having 5,,,now make it 6 machines....I am going to have to cull a few....maybe only keeping 2 or 3 at most....I like most all my present machines,,,but am only FAIRLY adequate in use with them...My present favorite is an older Compass Coinscanner Pro, Then my Tejon,,,,and that is only because of the warranty, lightness, and ease of use,,,,but half the time it just chirps away at a sens of 5-7,,,so it is not that use-full here,,,Then there is my XLT,,,,after 6 months and reading lots of posts,,,,(some of my favorites by Monte)...I am getting a little more used to it....and it IS helpful on those sidewalk tear outs,,,when a speed hunt for silver is on ,,,with 4-6 others going for the silver too.....My deepest machine to date is my CZ5,since I got it I could either dig a dime at 8-9 inches (in good conditions),,,or dig a nail at 11" LOL....I should not even mention my last machine because with out even having used My Cointrax II for 10 hours,,,I have decided that it will be the first one I sell......It is very sensitive and goes pretty deep, but I just like my others better...
I Am going to put 2-3 of these up on ebay,so I can dedicate my time of use to the XT-70.......and when I get a little flustered.I will fall back on my trusty Compass,,,just for fun....
I plan on studying it ,and digging ALL signals (and keeping a Log) for the first 10+ hours,,,,,To see what numbers, and audio tones are matched, and what a coin will read at,,,in different depths, and after I dig it as well........
MONTE ?????..........Which pattern should I use first to get familiar with the machine...and ..for logging my finds the first 10 hours.....I really do not want to dig everything,,,,such as IRON,,,,but in my tests,,,,,I don't mind digging Tabs,,,as long as I wont miss any Gold while doing my tests...I thought I would stay with the standard pre-set for my tests,,,,,Any suggestions ?
Thank You, and HH

Monte is an excellent source of info. After using the standard coil a short while I tried the 3khz coil. I my test garden, I was able to pick up more coins with the standard coil but could pick up silver deeper with the exception on silver (40%) nickles. Please realize my experience is very limited at this time.
