What I sometimes forget...

I have been hunting with the Fisher god bug pro. and finds have been few and far between as Far as My usual count of good targets go. I have been getting loads of bobby pins, foil, aluminum bits little designs of i think brass and aluminum from kids sneakers and a few coins. Since I returned from NY . This has been the norm for me with the gold bug. I did get 1 bracelet and a few pieces of earrings that were gold and silver and 1 silver dime.
Now this is NO complaint of the goldbug pro in any way. Its just that the local parks have a ton of trash. Making recovery tedious of these small items and the coins are few and far apart. If I use the 5 inch coil recovery is a bit better but coverage means I have to go even slower.

Yesterday I took my golden umax out of storage and hunted with it and the 15" clean sweep.
I have not yet totaled the number of coins I got between yesterday and today but Its a substantial increase. It is not that the golden is a better detector. It;s that it is the right tool for the job at hand. I can get it to pinpoint the targets to within a 1 " circle at the tip of the coil. Where the goldbug pro limits my vision because I have to guess where the ground under the center is.
Also the Golden is not so sensitive that i have to check so much junk.
I hunt is plain discrimination and can cover far more ground with the 15 " clean sweep coil.
Once I recover most of the targets with the golden it may be time to go back with the gold bug.
Time will Tell.
I will try to find sometime to dump my pouch into onto and show just how much I recovered today.

I may be mistaken, but isn't the gold bug pro a dedicated gold detector meant for the serious gold prospector? And if so, why are you using it as a park machine as you obviously have other options?

I was hoping to find some small gold.

Actually the gold bug works very well for coins. When i had mine thats what I was using it for.

having more than one machine can be a great advantage... learning both units strenghs and weaknesses gives you better chance for success....happy huntin...

The Tesoro Golden

Jim,

I was in your boat.

Yes, the Gold Bug Pro is a great gold detector and I too had thoughts of using it to find micro-gold jewlery.

But in areas of heavy non-ferrous trash the Gold Bug can become a nightmare of a detector to use.

You have to dig a lot of trash to find those small pieces of gold, so much that I decided it wasn't worth it anymore.

I too use the Golden, mostly when I want to cherry pick or when its hot in the summer and I really want to cherry pick!

But if I'm a mood to hunt smaller gold jewelry, I use the Tesoro Compadre.

I can discriminate out enough trash and still get the small gold to make it worthwhile.

Not trying to tell you what to buy, just sharing my experience.
