What I saw today ....

Guess what I saw most of the day today!!

While doing some detecting........
I had the following settings.

Ground Trac
Coin and Jewerly mode
Low Hum on Threshold
Gain set to the arrow #9
Dual Control Set at 3

Wow! Wisconsin must be the litterbug capital on the world.
Pull tabs galore. Was getting alot of Hot Rock, Iron
Just hoping to get some nice big blocks, not too many.
Mostly iffy signals but managed to get 11 cents and a hose
sprinkler!

How do these settings sound? That's pretty much what the
book says,

I'll be making a test garden this weekend so I can learn the
sounds.

Hot rock or iron stone? I was never affected by hot rocks in some of the most mineralized ground in the Country. One will get an occasional iron rock. The auto balance takes care of the hot rocks. The iron stone....... kick aside. I started with the C&J Mode and the Prospecting Mode. Now, I use mostly the Relic Mode and disc accordingly....

Your settings sound fine. However I'd switch to the Relic mode. I used the C&J for about a year and finally switched to Relic and I have never switched back. Oh ocassionally I'll switch back just to recheck a target but the Relic is sooooo much better in my opinion. Just listen for those high beeps and dig. If you're getting a lot of jumping or false signals just turn your gain down a little.

Sounds like PA dirt LOL.

I set my disc at 4.I have found that if i set a dug nickle on the ground, coil 8 inches above i turn disc, nickle still hits at 4. cut's some of my "PA Junk" out of the picture

Ok, ....I am listening. So do you still find alot of coins,
rings and jewrly in the relic mode?
Are the beeps higher in relic mode that make it easier.
I am new to the machine and never hunted in relic.

Thanks for the tip! I re-read the user manual and now
I understand what you were saying.

I'll give that try! It sounds like that might be the approach
for me.

I'll keep you posted on my finds!

Happy Hunting!

Yes you are going to find the same stuff. It's just that the detector sounds different. YOu get higher beeps on good targets with the relic mode. I like to run it with the pinpointing switch forward. Just throw you some coins down and sweep over them in the relic and listen to what you get. I think esp. if you are in a trashy area, the relic mode helps pick out the good stuff better than the coin mode. You just have to adjust to listening to those high sounds.

If it's allot of the old style beaver tail tabs you could flip the trigger forward and block them out. Most gold rings fall below that anyway so you wouldn't miss them. Thats what I do in heavy trash anyway, works well.
