As moderator of the X-Terra forum, I appreciate your coming back and explaining your thoughts. In defense of some of the less favorable "comments" you may have received, keep in mind that this is a forum specifically for the Minelab X-Terra. As such, some of us may get a bit defensive when a person who no longer owns an X-Terra comes on and states a negative opinion on an accessory coil they have never seen, and accuses the company who makes them (and helps sponsor this forum) of charging the price just because they are being greedy. I am, however, glad you came back and "continued" the discussion. One additional comment I would like to share on small coils would be that the X-Terra is new technology. It didn't have the luxury of using coils that were originally designed for a different detector. e.g. White's DFX shares coils with the MXT and M6. The XLPro shares coils with the 5900, 6000, IDX series, QXT series, Classic III and the XLT series. The Explorer shares coils with the Quattro. The Sovereign coil is the same coil as the Excalibur. The Tesoro Tejon shares coils with the Vaquero, Super Lobo and Cibola. The Tesoro uMax detectors all share coils. The Fisher 1200 series all share coils. The Fisher CZ series all share coils. The First Texas F4 shares coils with some of the Bounty Hunter detectors. Smart engineering? Maybe. But, sooner or later, when the product design takes a giant leap forward (as VFLEX has allowed), or those models are discontinued (the XLT is the only 6.592 kHz Whites currently manufactured) those coils will not work on the new units. IF and when that happens, I have to think the price of those new small coils will change. Simply a matter of R&D dollars and production quantities.
On more of a personal note, did you notice that you were not banned for posting your "views" on another site? I mention that because that happened to me recently while discussing the X-Terra small coil on another site. After I was supposedly banned, the "Mayor" of that site made posts saying "the resident Minelab salesman was listening to crickets". He said that I wasn't a Field Tester for various Minelab products. He said that I sent threatening emails to the site sponsor after I was "banned" from posting. And he said that when they contacted Minelab, Minelab didn't know who I was. Unfortunately, the Mayor seems to forget that we all have access to the Minelab website. There he would find some of the Field Test Reports I've written on various products I've tested over the past few years. He could also find several articles that I have written as "user guides" for specific Minelab detectors. (For the record, a couple years ago, the Mayor emailed me and asked if they could post my "Musky Hunting Made Easy" article on the website for a Company he use to work with. I gave him permission.) I am not telling you this to brag. But if he thinks for a minute that anyone who has visited the Minelab website hasn't at least stumbled into something I have written, he is only fooling himself.
I am not employed by Minelab. I do test some of their products. I also test products for other manufacturers. I have granted Minelab permission to post my reviews and articles on their website. I also gave them permission to use my testimonial and personal information in their brochure. They have. I did not contact his forum sponsor and I did not ask to be allowed "back on" their site. Frankly, if a person has a general understanding of computer technology, you don't need permission to access their site. And, for the record, I am not listening to the crickets.
In closing, the people who read this forum, and those who post here, share a common interest in learning more about the Minelab X-Terra. If you decide to buy another one, and want to share your thoughts about it, feel free to come back and post. As I said, I don't ban people for having a difference of opinion. I reserve the right to edit posts that are derogatory toward forum sponsors and other members. But if you make a sincere effort to contribute in a positive manner, your posts will be well received. Thanks. HH Randy
