What has happened to quality US coins???

Maybe if we switched production to China, we could afford to have solid copper pennies again! Just kidding. The other thing we could do is reduce the size of the penny, so it actually contained less copper, but then it would be smaller than a dime. In 1933 we went off the gold standard, in 1964 they took away the silver, and in 1982 they took away the copper. Now all your money has no real value. It's all essentially token money. If you think zinc cents are bad, just imagine how people felt when they switched to the small cent in 1859. I'm sure people thought they were getting ripped off then too.

:detecting: So True, So True. It feels a lot better when you find a Indian Head or even a older penny thats made out of copper. Zinkers kinda suck but its all part of the game.

Take Care,

As ojm says, it's the same here in Canada. I dug this nickel up on a sandy beach and I couldn't believe its condition. Then I saw that it's a 2001. My brother saw the pics and said, "I wonder what's going to be around to dig up in twenty years?".

Not this stuff, that's for sure.

It's like everything else in this country - make it as cheap as possible out of the cheapest material available. Look at the new cars - made out of tin and plastic with no frames and selling for ten to fifteen times what they are worth.
