I cleaned some coins in white vinegar and a little salt , and they started to disolve ??? This ever happen to anyone before ?

One thing about it...with our quality of planchets we won't be digging old and worthless pennies in fifteen years! (Just new and worthless!)

Zinc Pennies. I let em lay in the ground. I am tired of the looks over dirty pennies. People talk about how a pin pointer probe saves them time. I let em lay. That is how I save some time.

I really do not like the zincs!! Just junk IMHO. Why even bother making them? I dunno I will dig them but have a jar full of the ate up ones, Beale.

I pick them up and rescan. Who knows maybe the zinc could be masking a ring. I always pick tabs off the ground too.

I had a jar of ate up ones and seeded a gravel parking lot with them. Wonder if that's an enviromental hazard... could be considered a toxic dump site in the green future?

ive done the same with vinager and zing by soaking to long now just use dish liquid fish bowl rocks and a rock tumbler to clean newer coins:detecting:

Hay you guy that have all those pennys, do as i did, take them to the bank, must be roles, but tell them they are all us coins and need to be sent to reserve bank.that they are bad. they will give you good money for them.I took $45.00 in no trouble.Let the government have them back. they make them.Ask at your bank they will tell you if it is US money they must take them. the one i sent, some was only half pennys.I did,t even clean them no more. Try it, you dig them should get something for it.

Are those zinc pennies? (pre 1983)? If so, welcome to the harsh realities of the lousy material pennies are now made of. You oughta see some of the zincs that come from having been tumbled in the salt water surf for 10 or 20 yrs! We just throw them away.

The soil here is very acidic, more so in some places than others, and the worst areas are tough on zincs. I've recovered zincs no older than three to four years that were beginning to rot off around the edges, like the one in the photo, and some that had been in the ground several years were two thirds eaten away. Nickels, pre zinc pennies and clad coins that have been in the ground awhile are also in pretty rough shape, but at least they don't rot:(.

I treat them like I treat other trash when I dig 'em up corroded. Into the trash can.
Some zinc signals have been some really sweet finds so go ahead and leave
'em in the ground but if you dig one up please treat it as you would a pull tab or
other forms of trash. Trash can 'em!

Gotta get that penney back when you buy a gallon of gas!!!

Just pick em up and spend em unless they are really fine and collectible.

Those of you that want to trash em send em to me I'll dispose of them for you..

Won't wait around for your mail though...

See a penny, pick it up and all the day you'll have good luck, See a penny let it lay and it will rot by the end of the day. Sucks doesn't it?
