What happend to the SEF coil?

Steve from Ohio

New member
I was looking at the Kellyco website and noticed that the 12 x 15 SEF butterfly coil is no longer on the coil page. It just disappeared. There still is a 12 x 15 SEF offered for White's detectors but none for the Minelab machines.

I was thinking of getting one from Kellyco and was wondering why it is now gone.

Anyone know what's up?

https://www.kellycodetectors.com/excelerator/excelerator-10x12inch.htm ...that has always been one of my problems with the Kellyco website for years...I have always had a hard time finding certain accessories I wanted...It just happened recently and I was going to call them about it for some helpful, proactive feedback...HH

Seems,as when every one else is calling them 10 x 12,12 x 15,or 15 x 18..........Kellyco lists the large number first IE: 12 x 10, 15 x 12, 18 x 15 ect.
I got the above link at the Kellyco site...by typing into the search bar (15 x 12 sef)...and got the page above.

If you are already in the KellyCo website, go to the search box, in the upper right corner of the page. Just type in "SEF 10x12" (or whatever size coil you want to look at) and do the search. You will get several results, just pick the appropriate result and the Minelab and White coils and prices are are shown. I had the same problem finding the Minelab coils until stumbling onto this method. Does anyone know the weight of the SEF 10 x 12 coil? Just curious, for comparing to a coil I already have.

Hey I know I haven't been around in a dogs age, but I just saw this post and thought "wait... I work on the Kellyco website(s),... I can help here!" lol!!! If you guys EVER have issues finding anything online, just shoot me a PM and I will find it! Sometimes I need to know about this stuff because if something IS missing or if it isn't completely intuitive to what YOU need, *I* need to change it! I'm *always* on the computer and here to help!! - Ali

I bought my pro coil elsewhere because I couldn't find it on KellyCo's site. I think it'd be useful to provide a homepage link to All Coils and Covers and link from there to manufacturer or detector model. It would make it much easier to use.

We have had the SEF coils for Minelab machines in the UK for quite some time and quite honestly your not missing much. I bought a 15x12 for my SE last year before the E Trac came out.
The SEF coils were getting Hyped up big time in the UK so I thought I would give it a go. They were claimed to be a lot deeper and more stable than the Pro coil.
I have regretted it ever since. The Upshot is they feel as if you have the weight of a sack of Potatoes hanging on the end of your stem compared to the beautifully light and balanced Pro coil.
The SEFs depth advantage for me has been maybe an inch over the Pro, no bid deal anyways. The Hypers claimed that it was way more stable than the Pro, thats rubbish, they are equally as stable. Minelab done a great job with that Pro coil, I am constantly dropping them hints at the factory in Ireland that we guys would love them to develop a 15-16" Ultra lightweight Pro coil similar to the standard one fitted to the ET. If they did that they would put a stop to these overweight, over priced, over hyped after market coils for good.
My pro coil stays on my ET permanently now. I go detecting for pleasure not punishment. Just my take on things. :D

Thanks Tony. I will take your advice on the coil and maybe get a small 6 inch or 5 inch instead.

I keep hearing reports but nothing spectacular on the SEF coils. And I don't want to be swinging a sack of potatoes.

I will also take the advice of from Andy Sabisch and keep going with the pro coil.

I think the grass is greener is part of SEF marketing, it seems.

Tony if you have an ear listening to you at Minelab can you mention to them about their 8" coil? Thats a heavy one for its size.Even just going to the Tornado coil housing would make it lighter, at least it did for the Sov so I would guess its the same.

I like to keep dropping hints. wether they listen is another question. Your right, a coil either side of the 11" pro coil would be perfect. Personally Ive never found the old 8" coil too heavy. Its a great coil for using in wheat and maize stubble or on rough ground where a bigger coil is difficult to keep flat on the ground.

I think Mine Lab is missing a huge market if they don't take their PRO coil technology into different sizes. 8, 10 x14, 6, 4x7 and a larger 15, imagine a 5 x 10 or 4 x 12 (like a big foot). They apparently nailed making a better coil for their machines and in my opinion, have easily made the best coil yet. YES, we need different sizes:thumbup:

Hello Tony Hunt

I read your recent comments on the S.E.F. coil re minelab machines e-trac.
I use a T2 and have been trying to get an honest opinion re S.E.F. coils.
The S.E.F. coil is now available for the T2, is it worth changing over to one? they are are expensive.

Thanks
Patrcia

Thanks for the heads up about you being here on the board and offering to change things on Kellyco web site when needed.

I know for one I have never had a company send me as much as you guys did, like you did.....grinning. Aren't ya glad I called and advised y'all to stop that shipment? Some have said I was  , , and a few other things.... some I told them to :biteme:........ anyways, thanks for being around and offering.
