What extra coil should i buy with it?

Thank you everyone that give me your opoin on the two detectors that i wanted to buy! I have chosen the MXT because i have an IDXPRO and is a very well built detector! Now i am going to buy an extra coil for it and i live in Michigan on the Saginaw Bay and do a lot of coin and jewerly hunting. I have seen the excellerator coils and the double DD coils, which one would be better for me?

I would start with a 6 X 10 DD if I were you. thats a good all round coil. Then maybe later get one for the real trashy areas like a 4 X 6 or a 4.5 X 7 or 6" Excelerator. Thats what I would do, :whites::thumbup:

Well, my choice would depend on how mineralized your soil is and how deep the coins run in your area. Also where are you going to hunt, parks, woods, open fields etc. I hunted a old boy scout camp this week. The grass was high and I needed all the depth I could get, but the soil was mild. So I left 6x10 in the trunk and used my 9.5 concentric because in this situation it is deeper.

How deep were you getting with the IDX PRO? Rob

Hi you've said you are mainly coin and jewelry hunting. If you are hunting areas like parks and sports fields i would consider the bigfoot or hotfoot coil. They cover alot of ground and I will not goto a park without mine now that I know how well they work. For most other areas I use the 6x10 dd coil. I do not have any knowledge of the excelerator coils so I can not give my opinion of those.

You might as welll make your first coil purchase the 6X10 DD since sooner or later you will get it and find it will be your go to coil the majority of the time. In my opinion it is the most versitile coil for the MXT and will take care of the majority of your hunting conditions.

Enough said. I put my Eclipse 6x10 on my MXT about 5 months ago and it has never come off. I've owned just about every coil there is for the MXT and I feel the 6x10 is the best.

My 6 x 10 DD does a real good job in separating the trash, I leave it on 90% of the time. It's got to be extra extra trashy before I put a smaller coil on.
