what does slow mean for minelab?

I'm curious About the speed, and what people mean.is it the display that you mean is slow?I think the sound from I be target to another is fast,at least the Se pro I had seemed fast on the audio.
I bought a whites, first real whites I've owned. Good machine but not as good as a explorer in my opinion.so,I have a offer of a closet queen explorer 2 with a pro coil and 6eq2 coil for my whites. Before I pull the trigger I just was curious about what people consider slow, the audio, the visual,or both?thanks

when they talk about slow they are talking about the speed in which you hunt. the explorer and the soverign go deeper when they are swept very slow.

I had a DFX before I bought the Explorer II, hands down the Explorer wins over that particular model of White's. You do have to swing it pretty slow.

I believe the recommended length of time for the explorer is around 3 seconds to complete 1 swing back and forth. Also keep the coil as low to the ground as you can. These actions should help you detect the weak. very deep signals. I just purchased the cards with settings for the Explorer XS for different types of searches. They arrived yesterday, but due to work requirements, I won't have an opportunity to try any of them until next week.

Slow .. as in count to five swinging one way. Especially in high trash areas. .. Good luck !

I'm loving this SE with the pro coil,I had it before but let it go before I learned it,not that I'm good with it now,but I see the potential it has.

Most of my detecting is done on beaches. Yesterday the beach I was on had far too much sand depth to be any good so I did the rocky areas by the harbour wall, as there is massive amount of ferrous rubbish, there must be tons of the stuff even a clutch plate yesterday but swinging it very slowly about 5 seconds and going over the same area in both directions, I managed to find some coins and lead so not everything lost.

I go by myself so it's not a big deal for me to go slow,I just wasn't sure how slow to swing.thanks every one for the help.

When you think your going slow enough on the swing..Slow down more.. It seemed to work pretty well after that ... I mean slow - Really slow... It works better !!

What works for me as far as swing speed goes it all depends how many targets are in the ground I'm detecting. When I'm in heavy trash I move like a snail or really its more like I'm white washing a fence. I use short wrist like swings and double or triple swing over an area I'm griding, making sure I'm overlapping the line I'm on. I feel like I always swing pretty slow so when I tell someone they should slow down I'm talking about how fast they move over the ground there detecting. In super heavy trash I inch forward on the line I'm taking.

With my XS, Explorer 2, and SE it was mentally tiring in heavy trash because I ran an open screen. The beauty of the E-Trac was that I could use some discrimination and still pull out the oldies. The E-Trac for me was an easier machine to use in heavy trash and reopened up my pounded parks.

On the beach I preferred my Exploer 2 with the WOT coil over my E-Trac or SE. (Until I got the CTX)

I love when the tones I'm listening for stops me dead in my tracks and when I double check the target my tones kind of bleed through the trash.

SLOoowwwww when i hit a area with my Explorer XS that is littered with iron and trash i almost come too a complete stop set my setting too open screen and ferrous mode and listen for for higher tones between iron low tones i have found many coins relics ect at this pace and i can truelly say others have missed hope this helps. sas

Hi all, I just moved to MN from southern AZ and looking to metal detect/treasure hunt here (in MN) ... I need to find a group or individual to go with to learn what to do in the upper mid-west.

I use both an old White VLF machine and a Mine Lab PI machine ... and slow is different for each of these machines and what I am hunting...

The PI machine can be used and does better when worked slower than most of us think _ ML says that when prospecting (What I always did), slow is about 4 seconds per swing, i.e., from left to right or right to left. BUT, when prospecting, one is usually looking for small and/or deeper targets.

With the VLF machine (My old White's), slow for me was about 1 second per swing, i.e., from left to right or right to left.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents ...

OMG take the offer! You can sell the SE afterwards too!

SLOW SWING..3 SECONDS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE NEXT. LISTEN FOR GOOD SOUNDS ..DONT WATCH THE SCREEN TILL YOU PASS OVER A FAINT GOOD SOUND...GO BACK AND VERY,VERY SLOWLY GO OVER THAT AREA ALL AROUND 360 DGRESS TILL YOU BARLEY MOVE THE COIL AND GET A REPEATABLE SIGNAL NO MATTER HOW FAINT...WIGGLE SLIGHTLY AND BACK UP SLOWLY TILL THE SOUND DISSAPEARS AT THE FRONT OF THE COIL....THEN DIG AT LEAST 6" THEN PINPOINT WITH HANDHELD.

THE BEST COIL I HAVE EVER BOUGHT FOR EXPLORER XS AND EXLORER 2 IN 13 YEARS!!

I am searching areas in an old Fraser 1800's Mi park that no one will hunt anymore! No place is ever hunted out! There are a lot of power lines over the park. The Explorer will tune out disturbance. I have used my 15" wot and too much iron... have to turn sense down to 13 or less to hunt causing no depth detection and not good separation (still good though on beaches and no trash areas).
With this 14.5" R.I.F. DD TURBO COIL from Russia (very light) I can turn the sense up to 21 to 26..sometimes to 29!!!..UNBELIEVABLE! In 6 hunts... 2 to 3 hours ... I have pulled 2 Merc's and 2 rosies 6-10" and 8-$9 in clad...all at 3-12" deep withs 1 to 6 pieces of old iron nails, screws, pull tabs and other trash right next to them (within 1 to 4" away) with overhead high tension wires above! The screen shows the numbers for the trash and the coin jumping back and forth and you can hear the differences distintly! I use deep, full gain..havent need fast yet! .. but move and walk around in a circle once you hear the good tone get the tone to the front of the coil. Pinpoint will show you the other targets...turn it off and when you move ever slow slowly between the trash this coil will give you a clear sound of the coin...then swing or squiggle oh so gently back and forth in a few centimeters and back up slowly until the coin sound has dissappeared...the coin will be right under the front of the coil within an inch 6-12" down!!!
This coil separes and lets the good signal come thru like a 6" Joey coil in trash even though the iron is under the 15" coil along with the coin! Another thing!...when you have 3/4 of the screen blacked out the good signals come in stronger more so than having a clear screen!!! I can't explain this... it is totally unreal! I cant wait to get to areas I have given up on years ago using a multitude of coils I have. I absolutly love this detector and new coil. Remember to ground balance frequntly!!! It makes a big difference... balance it in all metal mode in clear ground with a totally blank screen...no discrinination (Mistake most make). It you are under high tension wires... ground balance holding the detector still horizontal to the ground at waist hight. Also keep coil horizontal to the ground. Remember while huntinting to always have the sensitivity to where you always hear the threshold 80% or more of the SLOW swing no matter how low you have to turn the sensitivity down to!
Get one of these you will not be dissappointed!!! John ;)
