What does a lot of old barbed wire, and tree roots hide? (Silver!!)

Got out for a little bit this afternoon, trying some new spots. Talked to a few locals about a spot I was interested in and was told, yeah it's an old spot but I've seen a lot of other guys with detectors here before. So I decided to give it a try, change my strategy a little bit, do a quick survey and see what I could turn up.

So I decided to focus on some area's that I thought other detectors would have a hard time with. Mix can slaw, bottle caps, pull tabs, small pieces of barbed wire (old corroded stuff) together and you get a very challenging place to pick your way through. The V3 definitely showed it's abilities today.

HiPro, RX 10, Filter 5 hz, and worked... VERY slowly. I hit a nice intermittent quarter signal, surrounded by iron, aluminum, and all that other stuff, but the D2 coil working slowly was able to still identify the target correctly. What I've found in this type of trash is to move the coil only about 1-2 inches side to side when surrounded by trash and a probable target. Then dig...I dug down about 5 inches, and this coin was at about a 45 degree angle in the soil next to a tree root.

So happily I've got a little silver streak going.. nice to find some for a change.

That is awesome man! Thanks for sharing your story! I found my first silver today but it was a .925 ring....my first silver coin is right around the corner! I can feel it! HH

Thanks for the compliment, I wish I could always credit my "great" detecting skills. But without the technology of the detector I'm sure I'd just be digging lots of pulltabs (which I dig a lot of anyway). The other element of this is to think obtusely from the crowd. We all have habits, and favorite places or types of places to look. What I've tried to do is break some of my habits, and look in places that others either walk over, or determine to be less probable. But there's no question that luck plays a part in this. It's a fun hobby.
