What does 2 Merc's sound like in a hole?

I got a late start and it was looking like rain. In fact i got rained on twice. I Hit one of the local parks with some age hoping to pull out a couple of oldies. I decided to hit a trashy area that i have avoided and was sure others had too. Cranked up the gain as high as it would go so none of the weak signals would get lost in all the noise. Also turned up the IM to 22 with my sensitivity stable at 24. Since i would have liked to use a smaller coil and didnt have one i put on the slim line. Everyone seems to have forgotten about it... but in this kind of trash it was a good choice over the SEF since i knew i was going to grid out the place and not move around the park. My first few hits were screw caps.... darn they sound good with high gain and when they are deep. But after 3 or 4 they were easy to sort out. My fist silver was a 1962 D quarter... great sound at about 6 inches, clearly was a silver coil. Then i got a sort of wheat hit... i say sort of because it sounded like a wheat with lots of crud. I dug down about 5 inches and hit a huge root... crap. After digging around i found the wheat. Covered the hole and of course got there was another one in there. After uncovering the hole i found the wheat. Then ran the coil over the hole... more coins. Ended up being 10 wheats in and around the hole. Moving around i got 2 more quarters.... a 45D and a 43. Then the rain came... but it was light so i kept on hunting after about 3 hours total i hit the IH... 1865. You cant tell it by its in good shape with full liberty. Here came the rain and i was about to leave when i got a scratchy Merc sound next to iron i thought. This one was deeper at least 8 inches. I heard the null from a small nail that i moved out of the hole. I got the sweet sound of SILVER.... but it was bouncing around... lower than a merc. I thought HALF.... but nope it was 2 mercs a 37 and 42 together. Oh i forgot to answer that question .... what does 2 merc's sound like in a hole? They sound like you had one heck of a good hunt. I also attached a picture of a New Hampshire state token, some sort of a pin, a FFA chapter star farmer award, and an Indianapolis Arsenal Tech school neck-less. I know the school is where one of the old military arsenals used to be in the mid 1800s. HH

Dont get those very often any more in a park Larry. Not only that .... but 2 holes with multiple coins was NICE. I dont think ive ever found that many wheats in a hole and NO silver. Defiantly one of those rare and very fun hunts Larry. The depth on the slimline in trash surprised me as well. Its a better coil than most people think in these type areas.

I was cherry picking Elton..... so i moved the gain to 10 and the threshold tones to 10 it gives you a NICE squeal on those high tone items in trash. Just goes to show those trash areas that we skip others do as well and are worth investigating on say a short hunt. A short hunt is best so you dont get mentally tired listening to all those tones. Even with IM set at 22 its noisy. I ment to post this on the Explorer site.... but hey just goes to show that the explorers are just as good as the Etrac at sniffing out silver.
