I found this ring a few weeks ago in the water. I can't imagine it being a counterfeit because I have seen some counterfeit cobs but not a 1/2 reale pillar. The band looks old to, maybe not as old as the coin 1756 but to me it looks like it was made from another coin. Any thoughts?

In my opinion..the front looks very real and pretty exact to detail from that time...just second pic throws me off...looks way to thick and uniform along edge..the "O over M "..mintmarks on each side of date would be from Mexico i believe...and thats where my help runs out..lol....hope that helps a bit...Curt...also my 1/2 reale from 1816 is actually thinner than dime..i realize from different time period but thought id throw that out there.

On one of the other main detector forums there's a really active group who does the ID stuff and they do a super job. I sometimes browse through there just because it's unbelieveable what they know. jim

Very nice find. Did you find it in the surf or dry sand? I've been finding silver coins at our beach lately. HH
