What do you think?

I have been really getting into these "paid/seeded" hunts as of late. The E-Trac is working out okay but could shed about three pounds and does not like to be swung as fast as needed. So what do you think is the best machine for these types of hunts. I would like to hear from you that hunt in seeded/competition hunts. Thanks in advance.........

The hunts that you speak of are not buried very deep so a detector choice might be a Ace 250 very light swing all day

The "name of the game" in competition hunts is SPEED (to put it in a nutshell).----So you need a detector that is light, has a very fast recovery rate and if it has a frequency shifter--that is "iceing on the cake".----In a 1 hour competition hunt--most of the targets are gone by the first 15-20 minutes--so you've really got to "get the show on the road" comeing right out of the gate (to do well) :) ---A select few detector manufacturers produce machines that would meet the above requirements in a good competition machine.---The bottom line in a competition hunt is how fast you can recover each target & get on to the next--regardless of which detector you are useing--but you need the above described "type" of detector to accomplish this.---That's been my experience & I'm sure others would agree.----The Etrac as a competition machine??---NAW----The Etrac as totally unbeateable as a silver/copper hunter??---YAH & YEP!!! --------Del

Using an E-Trac for seeded hunts is a waste of one awesome machine!! I'm assuming you didn't buy the E-Trac just for seeded hunts though, but to find the deep/old coins/relics in the ground.

The E-Trac or any Explorer is not meant to find shallow targets at a quick pace. It's designed to find the deepest of finds at a snail pace.

Possibly a lightweight White's machine (M6) would be the best for those types of hunts.

All very accurate comments for a competition machine (Light, fast recovery, etc).

I absolutely did not buy the E-Trac for competition, but it is currently the only machine I have. I have done very well with the E-Trac but can not keep beating a $1500 machine to death trying to keep up with the competition hunters. Any help on brands and models would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - John

a xterra would be a great machine to use, super light an easy to swing, plus overall it is a great machine, I dug 110 silver last year with mine

How is the recovery speed and what model did you have? Thanks - John

John-----You do not need to spend an arm & a leg for a competition machine.---I hesitated to "name names" here on the Etrac forum but seen others have, sooo.---Both the Tesoro Cibola & Vaquero are lightweight machines with quick recovery speed and have a frequency shifter.---The Cibola is cheaper than the "V", the main difference being a manual G.B. on the "V" (which you wouldn't necessarily need in a competition hunt).---Also, select models of the less expensive Fishers would make good detectors for this purpose.---The Whites M6 is a little heavy for this purpose (IMO) & the Garrett Ace 250 would probably be "OK"---if you like that bell tone.---Personally, my choice would be a Tesoro or Fisher for competition---also GOOD used ones show up cheap sometimes.------Del

i have used both Ace 250 and Xterra 70. both very fast recovery speed. just because im a Minelab kind of guy i'd go with the Xterra 70:minelab: it would be an AWESOME detector for competition hunts. it would be my detector of choice for competition hunts. i would NEVER use my SE for seeded "speed hunts" processor isn't set up for that. Explorer series and Etrac are great detectors, but they have their place and its for deep coins and relics at a slow pace. Xterra 70 isn't too expensive either. fantastic back up detector also.

You got it Del, one of the tesoros would be the right choice, super light with a freq switch. theres quite a few models by tesoro that fit that description.

For speed hunts after carnivals and such I use the Fisher F75 which is very light and has to be swung fast, whereas I use the e-trac when I'm out seriously looking for the old stuff "Slow and Low." and at the beach ( wet sand) the Excalibur 1000 and in heavy dry sand the Garrett LS Infinium.

Find a Troy Shadow X3 & a 9" or 10"x5" coil...super super light...frequency shift...
Works great for competition...
That's all I use it for....

Tesoro's do really well...

Thanks for all the great information guys. I think I'm leaning towards a Tesoro or if I can get into a Minelab X-Terra 30.

Thanks Ray-Mo for the link, I think that detector might work as well.
