Just thinking of buying one of these, been made redundant and my fisher f75 has to go,was looking at one of these for now.
What are your opinions of the tesoro compadre?
Any faults or things to look out for when buying?

Thanks Gaz

Durable , easy to use and a great metal detector , but I'm a silver umax user and I had a lot of metal detectors over my years and I like the tesoro machines, Best of Luck Hank.

Simple, trouble-free, well built, lightweight, and lifetime warranty. I can't think of one problem. Just make sure your headphones are turned down if they have a volume control, as the battery test works very well.:surprised:

Your right Slingshot I forgot about the battery check every time its turned on !:yikes:

Hey Bucksport...Thanks for the nod!

That thread was my first short hunt and real first impressions.
Then, since I only get to hunt on Sundays, nowadays, I took it to a real old and trashy park for the next 2 weeks looking for jewelry.
Didn't find any, but I did learn about trash signals, and anything you learn is helpful.
Last Sunday, I figured it was time to dig something good so I went to one of my favorite sites that I have hit with 2 different detectors several different times just looking for one good thing...and it turned out way better than that!
I have a Vaquero and an F2 and I really do love them both, but I firmly believe everyone should also have a Compadre in the arsenal for so many reasons.

Here are a couple....

What makes the compadre better than the silver umax? Isnt it better it costs more.I bought my twin grandkids both a compadre .One was lost and the other was stolen. i never really got to use them.If they are good maybe I can trade this garrette for one.

The compadre is better for gold jewelry due to it higher frequency.

The frequency combined with the low gain circuitry makes it better for gold. That is what others have posted. Sounds good to me :)

If the "low gain circuitry" is so good at finding fine gold then why isn't it used on other Tesoro detectors? Are is it?

I just got mine yesterday and I like it a lot.
I discovered that I don't need a separate pinpointer.
It is so light and accurate that I just pick it up at the middle of the shaft and wave it over the hole to see if I have moved the target yet.

It is the low gain that gives it a "niche" If they put it in their other units they would not sell many of them. Plus the others get more depth with the high gain. It is a trade off. If I had the money I would own every one of their units :)

Gaz,

To answer your question, the Compadre is a fantastic detector depending on what you intend to use it for. In most hunting situations, it is an ideal detector. You simply set your discrimination and go.

It is not a depth monster, but hits within 6", which is where 90% of your targets are anyway.

It has a 5.75" coil that is hardwired to the unit, so you cannot interchange the coils. This can be a problem where you want to cover a larger area with each sweep, such as at a beach or athletic field. But in most areas, it is just the right size, especially in parks and yards.

I would not hesitate to buy another one.

I just realized that I really like the mellow tone of the Compadre. My Golden uMax is also pleasing to listen to with its mellow tones. My high-tone Vaquero, Bandido, Gold Bug and Omega make my ears ring. It makes for a miserable day in trashy areas. A lot of people really like the high tones, but not me. I fixin to do me some trading and selling.
