I've read take your finds to the bank and get cash. then go to casinos try 2 double your money If clad
If you have silver and go to somebody who buys silver, they weight it and give you 80%.
Do you go to coin collector and try and get more?
need help

At the end of each season I cash in all my clad and treat myself with something I wouldn't normally buy. As for the silver and gold, kept it all so far. I have found a few collectibles such as tokens that I have sold to collectors that would appreciate them much more than I. Not sure about your 80% number, but try to find a local and reputable coin dealer in your area for selling silver coins.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about 80%. You would be (very) lucky if a coin dealer offered you melt value. You would probably get more from an individual who is collecting coins. As an example, if a coin was worth $2 retail, a dealer might offer you 75 cents (wholesale). But someone filling their coin books might pay the retail price. I'll shut-up now.

My interest in coin collecting is what got me into metal detecting back when I was 15 years old. I clean and cash in my clad and use it to pay a bill or buy a new coil, digger, old coin, etc. I keep all the silver, gold and older coins. If I don't need them in my own collection I'll probably meet a younger collector that will need them in the future. My cousin's son is 10 and can't afford much more than pennies or nickels. He also likes metal detecting so I may have a new hunting partner in a few years.
I really hate the thought of so many coins being melted every time the price of silver or gold goes up. I know its inevitable but I still don't like it. All I can do is save what I've got for the future, no matter what happens to metal prices. When friends, relatives and detecting buddies ask about coin values I give them a fair value and warn them that dealers will offer less. How much less depends on how good they are at haggling. I've bought plenty of coins at a fair price just to save them from the melting pot.
I've given a lot of thought about what to do with my collections of coins a metal detecting finds when I'm gone. I'll probably give them to a relative who is as interested in these things as I am. I've even thought about buying a few time capsule containers and making some nice caches some lucky metal detectorist. I know I'd love to find a cache like that.

In 3 years, I've kept all finds but the clad. I put the silver and collectibles including tokens, into 2X2 coin flips and then into plastic sleeves in a 3-ring binder. The binder is catagorized by hunting site, with a little info on the 2X2, date, location found, etc. A lot nicer to show off than just throwing it all into a jar or drawer!

My clad gets tumbled and used to purchase detecting accessories or silver. I keep all silver coin finds, jewelry and relic finds. I keep some tokens for display/conversation pieces and sell the more valuable ones to buy detecting accessories or more silver. 80% sounds a bit low if you are trying to sell. I think the clad find casino strategy is a terrible idea as I worked way too hard for every one of those coins to throw it away. If anyone tells you they have a "system" for winning and this is a good idea, they are full of crap. As we used to say in the casino industry, "there's an A$S for every seat". JJ

[size=large]more cost effective to invest ur clad finds in something like, "Enron". a sure winner if ever there was one.
give it to grandma for her bingo night.
