What do you consider best probe for relics???

New member
Recently purchased a 705 and I'm so used to the Sunray Probes, but know that I'll have to find a new way. What do you all use and what do you consider to be the best and or best value?

Thanx

Jim

Garrett ProPointer - compact size, built tough, good depth. Wouldn't think of heading out without mine.

I've had my Garrett ProPointer for two months and really like it. Its well built and has good depth.

thing about the pro pointer is that is is SO NOISY, has anyone figured out how to quiet it down or is there a vibrate mode?
when I am in a park or at a private house I do NOT like to draw attention to myself and that is one sure way to do it. A couple weeks ago I was at a park and a lady was there using the propointer and I could still hear her using it 100-200 ft away, I was shocked how LOUD that thing beeps, why is it so loud??

I use a whites bullseye and keep it on vibrate mode 100% of the time, no one needs to know it is going off but me. I think they would be smart to have a vibrate mode on the pro pointer. I will not even think about buying one till they improve that.

Heard you could put some elec tape over the little speaker and quietn it down.Havent tried it though

There is a small hole that the sound comes out of a small pin hole, you can put a piece of electrical tape over the hole. The sound and vibrate are on all the time. I suppose if you wanted to really quiet it down you could put some black silicone over and into the hole the sounds comes out of. If you did this carefully you could remove it later. A piece of electrical tape would probably be the best way to go.

Revised
I could not edit my previous post.
There are two small slit hole's that the sound comes out of, you can put a piece of electrical tape over the slits. The sound and vibrate are on all the time. I suppose if you wanted to really quiet in a more permanent way you could put some black silicone over and into the slits the sounds comes out of. If you did this carefully you could remove it later. A piece of electrical tape would probably be the best way to go. Putting a piece of tape over does quiet it down a lot.

I agrre with the vibrate only.

I wrapped several times around my speaker with electrical tape and it does hep a bunch, Beale.

Hey hey, well I have had a few pinpointers and for me the vibra-probe 570 works very well. And being fully waterproof lets me hunt rain or shine, and cleaning is a snap. The probe is well made and cant make a peep lol. It only has vibrate, pulses become closer together as you near the target. I do get falsing if my detector coil is to close while using the probe, but will deal with that I guess. HH L8R

There are so many votes for the Garrett ProPointer! I have a Detector Pro Pistol Probe and really like it for high conductive coins, it does work great, I heard it is deeper than the Garrett and on my test gets about 5 inches on a US nickle, it works very good for coin sized objects BUT it is bulky and I have heard 2 people did not like it for gold nuggets and one called it junk. For smaller than coin sized, low conductive nuggets and gold earings they have poor performance in depth I think. My 2 cents.

Anyone tried the Treasure Products, Vibra-Tector 730, Pulse Induction Metal Detector with a 4" hand held coil for either coins or gold??

And a NEW 2" one. Vibra-Quatic 2 Pulse Induction:

I use two pieces of electrical tape on top of each other right on the speaker and it makes the beeping noise very low. I'm ok with that level of noise. People don't turn anymore to see what I have found. LOL/center]

I have these one too, I love both of my pinpointers!!! Garret and 570 do their own kind of dirty work. I preffer the Garret on Playgrounds and the the 570 for grass most of the time. Bulky but that sucker really vibrates on contact. lol
