what do I have?

The link you got may say they were pipe locators, but people back then also used them for cache locating. Just as in fisher 2-box of that same era. They would only find large objects. Like jars, hubcaps, pipes and the like.

As for value, yours is rarer than fishers. For some reason, old fisher 2-boxes show up more frequently. Eg.: flea markets, eBay, etc.... However, sadly, the collector demand for vintage detectors isn't that great :( The only way to find out is to float it on ebay.
