What do I do if I find a chest full of gold bars?

Alexcho

New member
Hi all,

I am new to treasure hunting and this forum. So not sure if this is the right place to ask the question. But as the title say. What do I do if I find a chestful of gold bars that was possibly buried by Japanese war soldiers in the 2nd world war in Asia? How do I claim its mine and how do I sell it? Thanks in advance.

hey alexcho, you can always call on me, i would be glad to help you. you can count on me. i will be there for you. even on 24 hour call! hahaha, but really, it would be cool to find it... and harder yet to get away with. a treasure of that size and value would be hard to conceal, and very heavy as well. such treasures are known to exist, and its not beyond the realm of possibilities. there is still a large undiscovered cache of gold bars somewhere in the phillipines the japanese army had looted during ww2. theres some good advice the other fellows have given you. at nearly 1000.00 an oz., that would be a lot of cashola! here in virginia about 2 hours away from me is the fabled thomas beale treasure, worth about 40 million by now. but, you wont find it if you dont look for it... good luck, do u need my #? hahaha, hh,

Cut them up, remelt. resale....tell noone by bearkat4160. DO NOT DO THIS. Any bars will have an assay mark. If you cut them up then no one will know the purity of the gold. Sell than a few at a time for CASH, no paper trail. Live good, buy more MD's and have fun. Keep your stash buried. TELL NO ONE.

Check the local laws first to see what legal claim you would have if any. If you are not a citizen and are not entitled to "found" treasure maybe you can work with an honest native attorney a little at a time to see how it goes. You don't have to reveal what or where the Find is to research the law. Also check with some famed "explorers", sea hunters etc. to see what they would advise. I can't think of Mel Fisher's son's name but he may be of help. Historically the cache may be worth more than in weight although that may seem impossible. When you consider a "Chestful" of Gold bars I would be certain that it would be a pretty small chest as gold is quite heavy and it would take one heck of a chest to outlast the elements since WWII and hold very many bars or a pretty sound structure to contain it indoors. I knew of a man who saved his pennies in a "Beer Ball", anyone remember those? They were like a round plastic keg of beer but smaller than a keg. The man had a few of them and never needed to worry about one being stolen as a strong adult would struggle to lift one an inch off the floor. He lived in an old apartment out in CT on the second floor with wood floors! Hope all works out for you, proceed honestly but with extreme caution. If you are the finder time is on your side, do your homework, quietly!

I would like to think I could do the "right thing" and just be satisfied with the recognition of such a find. I might even get a small finders fee? I turn in a million in gold and get 2500! I don't think so. Now a chest full of gold is life changing for me and my family. Why can't I keep it if I ran my coil over it? I read two stories last year where people "did the right thing" and either got it all taken away or is in court now. One I remember was a guy bought a house. Then went to the attic to run some coax cable. He saw some boxes up there. I think there was 250K$ in them (not sure but a lot of cash) Then he proceeded to contact the news station and police department. He thought they were just going to record everything and give him some fame and the money. As it turns out the cops said a drug dealer had lived in the house prior to him. They said he died in jail. They said the cash was the Feds now. Then the widow said it was hers. The homeowner said it was his. I would cut all that nonsense out and keep my mouth shut. Deep down I know it sounds bad but I dream of such a find! Am I the only one?
