What different coils for Garretts work on Ace250?

I read/heard that some other coils made by Garrett will work on the ace 250 but throws the readings way off. But since we're encouraged to dig all repeatable signals I don't see what difference that would make. Has anyone tried this yet and if so what were the results of this?

The only other coil that I am aware of for the ACE 250 is the 4.5" Sniper coil from Garretts. I am planning on ordering the 250 shortly and will be ordering that along with it. You may get some other responses if you check the ace250 forum on Yahoo. Also, if you haven't heard, they say to run the coil wire straight up the top of the lower shaft instead of wrapping it there to eliminate some false signals. Tape it in place.

But, you never know....that could change too! I'm not sure that it is a good idea to start attaching coils not designed for a particular unit. I just hope it doesn't do any permanent damage to the electronics or affect warranty.

It probably would affect the warranty. They would, I'm sure, consider that a modification. If you try to use another brand coil, you may have to change the connector on the end of the cable.
