Other than the fact that you can't Carry water in a grain bag. I learned you can walk in another mans foot steps and dig the targets he misses. And the X-Terra 70 makes that an easy job. I'm sure any machine would do the same, its just a matter of being aware of what you're doing. Picking a pace that allows you to cover the area with a rhythm and wide swing that's comfortable and deliberate.
I like hunting river banks where trappers of old have traveled for years. I also hunt lots of fields that are large enough to overwhelm you. I find it beneficial to make every step count. Specially when the years are catching up on you. I like a longer shaft on my machine than most. I get near an 8' width of swing and if the soil is not to nasty a fair pace. If you are going to walk a river bank or field all day, make the best of it. Know when you're done that you don't have to go back over it again. (we all miss targets) The more thorral you are the better chance you have for catching that one old silver or copper that is just on the fringe of a Hot Spot. I know most of you have hit a spot where you find one, two, three, OMG 6 coins in one area. How would you feel if you hit a spot like that and spent the entire day digging silvers, coppers, buttons and scads of artifacts in an area the size of your 2 car garage. I have, more than once and if I were swinging with the attitude of La De Da. I could have missed that one coin that made me stop and work the area around that find. You do work the area around a find don't you? I knew you did.
I have shown you the coins I found in what I call the Field of Dreams. Well, here are the other finds of that same area that the coins were found.
