What Detectors are You Guys Using?

Just wondering what detectors you guys & gals are using while beach hunting? I'd like to hear what units are working best in what situations. I mean some work especially well in the surf but others work better in the sand. I really like to hear what you folks use and which you feel are the better choices.

I've had my Excalibur for a little less then a year now and really like it, I hunt primarily in the water with occasional wet/dry sand searches. I've noticed though that the majority of hunters I run across use the White's PI Pro, seems like a well performing detector. IMO with most detector brands, if you're over the target you're gonna hear something if freshly/recently dropped. Purchasing a detector is the easy part, putting in time and effort hunting is where it really counts especially during droughts when all you seem to be finding are pennies and these ->:pulltab:.:)

The Ace 250 works in the dry stuff. Don't push too far into the wet salt sand with this 1. The Excal 1000 works well in the surf(especially trashy surf), fresh water lakes (awesome) and wet sand and apparently parks (see David of Suffolk's posts). The Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II works in wet sand and in the surf, but does not discriminate, which in the surf is ok, because most lighter weight targets gather somewhat near the waters edge. I don't know about anything else, except what I have heard as hearsay. If you do not want to go into the water, then you should ask someone else. That's about all I know. Hope this helps your decision. GH

Thanks for the info. I just purchased a White's Beach Hunter, and I've only used it in the dry beach sand so far. But it doesn't seem to detect very deep in the sand. This weekend I'll be in the water (I figure a few feet past the surf line). Up to now I'd been using a friend's Sovereign GT, and it worked great in the dry sand. I'm already discouraged with my purchase . . . figuring I should have thought this through a little more and, perhaps, purchased a different detector. Time will tell.

i've got a fisher CZ-20.
works great on the wet or dry sand,i haven't been in the water with it yet but i know they are great there too.
i also use it in the parks and in farmers fields and i have to say it's the best purchase i have ever made.

Maybe not jimmyo, talk to BEACH HUNTER because he came to VA Beach and put it on the locals with his Beach Hunter ID. Maybe it will be alright. I still am not convinced that anything but a PI unit goes as deeply as necessary to find deeper gold in the surf. Good luck to you. GH
